He obtained his BFA in Drama from the University of Oklahoma before starting his career.
His first play, Goodbye, Love. Goodbye, Joy. Hello, Travis McElroy, opened to mediocre reviews, which made him rethink if he should work in the industry or not.
He was born and raised in Nacogdoches, Texas.
He and footballer Brian Bosworth both studied at the University of Oklahoma.
