She sang in the West Point Baptist Church choir before getting her start with gospel groups like The Pete Williams Singers.
She was nominated for ten Grammys, winning the Best Traditional Gospel Album Grammy for Songs of the Church.
She was one of five children born to Ruben and Camille Walker.
