ABOUT ALEX MAAS

Singer and bassist best known as the frontman for rock titans The Black Angels. Formed in 2004, the band has released albums including Directions to See a Ghost, Phosphene Dream and Wilderness of Mirrors. He is also a solo artist with tracks including "Been Struggling," "500 Dreams," "Special" and "Slip Into."

When he was a child, his parents ran a plant nursery and he was inspired by the sounds of trickling waterfalls, birdcalls, chirruping insects and wind rustling leaves. The repetitious sounds drew him to house and trance music.

His solo albums include 2020's Luca and 2021's Levitation Sessions. He also scores films and documentaries. He is the co-founder of Austin Psych Fest, later renamed Levitation.

In 2018, he and his wife Michelle had a son named Luca.

His band was featured on the soundtrack of the 2007 Kevin Bacon film Death Sentence.
