ABOUT ALFRED MOSHER BUTTS

Best remembered as the inventor of the popular Scrabble board game, this New York-born man was also an architect and amateur artist. When he first created Scrabble, he called the game "Lexiko."

He graduated from New York's Poughkeepsie High School in 1917 and began his architecture career during the 1920s.

New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art acquired several of his drawings.

He grew up in Poughkeepsie, New York, as the son of Arrie Mosher and Allison Butts.

He and Monopoly inventor Charles Darrow both created extraordinarily popular board games.
