Dutch-American specialty coffee entrepreneur and founder of Peet's Coffee & Tea in 1966 in Berkeley, California.
He worked as a tea taster in the Dutch East Indies and New Zealand. He moved to San Francisco, California, in 1955.
He supplied the founders of Starbucks with coffee during their first year of business.
He learned about the coffee business from his dad who ran a coffee roastery in Alkmaar, Netherlands.
He had many celebrity fans, including Katie Holmes .
