She originally began studying English at Oxford University before turning to acting. She earned her acting degree at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2005.
She appeared in 2012-2013 on the BBC One TV series Ripper Street. She also starred as Lady Margaret Beaufort on the BBC One/Starz TV show The White Queen.
She has three siblings. Her parents are Irish.
She appeared alongside Rebecca Ferguson in The White Queen.
