ABOUT AMATUS SAMI-KARIM

Actress, composer, and producer best known for appearing in and composing the music for the 2017 romantic sci-fi drama film The Last Two Lovers at the End of the World. She played the part of Jaz in the 2003 drama film Rhythm of the Saints and also portrayed roles in the short films Girl's Time and Jasmine.

She studied at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University before going on to also attend the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, England. She inaugurated her professional acting career with the 2000 short film The Ice People.

In the year 2020, she won an Outstanding Children's Program Primetime Emmy for having produced the HBO documentary We Are the Dream: The Kids of the Oakland MLK Oratorical Fest. In the year 2021, she served as executive producer of the documentary In Our Mothers' Gardens.

She married Moonlight and True Detective star Mahershala Ali in 2013. They welcomed their first child, a daughter named Bari Najma Ali, in 2017.

She appeared opposite Sarita Choudhury , Daniella Alonso , and Ryan Donowho in the 2003 drama Rhythm of the Saints.
