She started off working as a hair stylist and opened her salon Visions by Ambika.

She was a judge on the Indian reality TV show Midukki. She has over 140,000 followers on her ambika_pillai Instagram account.

She was married to Surendra Nath from 1980 to 1988.

She and Blathnaid Murphy are both award-winning makeup artists.
