ABOUT AMOS TUTUOLA

Twentieth-century Nigerian author who is best known for his 1952 novel The Palm-Wine Drinkard. Many of his works, including My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, were based on folk stories of the Yoruba people.

He worked for several years as a blacksmith for the Nigerian Royal Air Force.

Despite having only attended school for six years, he wrote three acclaimed novels.

He married Victoria Alake in 1947; they became parents to four daughters and four sons.

Musicians Brian Eno and David Bryne named their 1981 album, My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, after Tutuola's 1954 novel of the same title.
