ABOUT ANDREW LAM

Vietnamese-American author who is known for his 2010 novel, "East Eats West: Writing in Two Hemispheres." In 2013, he published "Birds of Paradise Lost," a short story collection about the struggles of Vietnamese immigrants living in the San Francisco Bay Area.

He studied biochemistry at the University of California, Berkeley before beginning his literary career. After studying creative writing at San Francisco State University, he accepted a journalism position with the Pacific News Service.

His work, "Perfume Dreams: Reflections on the Vietnamese Diaspora," received the PEN Open Book Award in 2006.

Lam's father, Lam Quang Thi, served as a general in Vietnam's Army of the Republic. Andrew Lam gave a 2009 interview in which he disclosed that he is gay.

For many years, he contributed to The Huffington Post, a publication established by Ariana Huffington .
