She worked for the United Nations. She founded Children On The Edge, an orphanage organization for disadvantaged children in eastern Europe and Asia.
She was named a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Elizabeth II in 2003.
She married Gordon Roddick with whom she had two daughters.
She was named the third most inspirational role model by a 2005 Shell liveWIRE survey. Richard Branson was first.
