ABOUT ARTIE JAY MITCHELL
Established the San Francisco, California adult entertainment industry and the striptease club business with his brother Jim from 1969 to 1991.
His first adult cinema, the O'Farrell Theatre, opened in 1969. He and his brother founded a total of 11 cinemas.
He and his brother produced and directed their first adult film, Behind the Green Door, in 1972, leading to many such productions.
Artie's brother Jim was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter after he shot and killed Artie at the climax of an argument over his alcoholism and cocaine addiction.
He and his brother were close friends with gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson , who claimed to have been a night manager at one of their clubs.
