Center known for playing with the New York Islanders . He has previously played with the Boston Bruins and Calgary Flames .

He got his start playing with the Detroit Compuware minor league youth team in 2004. He played in Division 1 college with the Miami RedHawks.

He played with the US national team at the World Junior Championship in 2010 and 2012. The United States won in 2010.

He is from Washington Township, Michigan. He is married to a woman named Rachel and they have a daughter named Colette Dorothy Czarnik. His cousin was hockey player Robert Czarnik.

He scored his first NHL goal against Henrik Lundqvist when playing against the New York Rangers.
