Aziz Pahad
ABOUT AZIZ PAHAD
South African politician who was the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1999 to 2008. He also served as a Member of Parliament for Johannesburg.
He was given a banning order in 1963 when South Africa was under apartheid and he relocated to London three years later where he fostered the Anti-Apartheid Movement in the U.K. and Europe.
As Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, he was instrumental in bringing peace in the conflict between the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, and Angola.
His brother, Essop Pahad, served as Minister in the Presidency from 1999 to 2008.
He was first elected to Parliament under President Nelson Mandela .
