Inventor of the Sweet'N Low artificial sweetener. He also founded the Cumberland Packing Corporation.

He co-owned a cafeteria business in close proximity to the Brooklyn Naval Yards.

His logo for the sweetener, with Sweet'N Low superimposed over a musical staff, was U.S. Trademark Registration No. 1,000,000.

He married Betty Gellman in October 1931.

His Sweet'N Low was pitched by Regis Philbin in several TV ads.
