He was born Ruben Armand Mardones in Cleveland, Ohio; his father was from Chile. He and Jane Braemer got married in October 2011.
Chubby Checker was another singer who reached the Bilboard Top 20 twice with the same song, doing so in 1960 and 1962 with a cover of "The Twist."
