ABOUT BERLIE DOHERTY

English writer, playwright, and screenwriter best known for her children's books Granny Was a Buffer Girl and Dear, Nobody. Both of these books won Carnegie Awards.

She studied English at the University of Durham and science at the University of Liverpool. She did per post-graduate education at the University of Sheffield.

She also wrote the libretti for three children's operas.

She had three children. Two of her daughters, Sally and Janna, worked with her on her writing projects.

Elizabeth Laird is another Carnegie Award winning children's author.
