ABOUT BILL BATES
Safety who played for the Dallas Cowboys from 1983 to 1997, and won three Super Bowls with the team while becoming a fan favorite.
He was a four-year starter at the University of Tennessee, but still went undrafted in the 1983 NFL Draft.
He made the Pro Bowl and the All-Pro team in 1984.
He raised five children with his wife Denise Bates.
He played under Cowboys coach Tom Landry , who often praised his work habits in the study room.
