ABOUT BILL VIOLA
This acclaimed multimedia artist is most famous for his human consciousness-themed video art pieces. His best known works include The Quintet Series, The Tristan Project, and An Ocean Without a Shore.
After earning a B.F.A. degree in Art from Syracuse University, he secured a tech position at Syracuse's Everson Museum of Art.
His numerous honors include a 1984 Polaroid Video Art Award and a 1989 John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Award.
He met his wife and artistic collaborator, Kira Perov, while exhibiting his artwork at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia.
During the 1970s, he collaborated with electronic composer David Tudor as a member of a music group called Rainforest.
