Billy Bingham
ABOUT BILLY BINGHAM
Former soccer player and manager who played for the Northern Ireland national team from 1951-1963 and went on to manage the team from 1980-1993.
He began playing soccer for St Donard's Youth Club.
His professional debut came in 1948 for Glentoran.
He grew up with his family in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
As a player he was described as the anti- Stanley Matthews because he lacked Matthew's natural talent and skills and compensated with a scrappy style of play.
