Brendan Burke
ABOUT BRENDAN BURKE
Canadian hockey player who was killed in a car accident in 2010. He is remembered for being one of the few openly gay hockey players and for his activism within the LGBT community.
He was born in Vancouver and played college hockey at Miami University.
The Brendan Burke Internship was founded by U.S.A. Hockey in his honor in 2010.
His father is former Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke.
He and former NBA player John Amaechi are two of the most prominent gay athletes.
