American author and professor known for her books Beyond Respectability: The Intellectual Thought of Race Women and Eloquent Rage: A Black Feminist Discovers Her Superpower. She also co-edited a series of essays called The Crunk Feminist Collection.

She received her bachelor's degree in English and political science from Howard University in 2002.

She was named to Root.com's list of Top Black Influencers in both 2013 and 2014.

She's been based in New Jersey.

She has been featured on the MSNBC show All In which is hosted by Chris Hayes .
