ABOUT C LOUIS LEIPOLDT
Remembered for his works in the Afrikaans language, this acclaimed South African poet of the early Twentieth Century also penned novels, children's stories, travel writings, recipe books, and plays.
After working as a journalist during the Second Boer War, he trained at London, England's Guy's Hospital and began a career in medicine.
Common themes of his poetry include nature, wartime suffering, and the culture of the Cape Malay ethnic group of South Africa.
He grew up in Worcester, Western Cape, South Africa, as the son of cleric Christian Friedrich Leipoldt and missionary's daughter Anna Meta Christiana Esselen.
He was the personal doctor of publisher Joseph Pulitzer .
