ABOUT CARL AVERY SMITH
The late father of country rap musician John Lee Smith, who is more widely known as Big Smo .
He was in the Navy for 25 years before working another 27 on an Air Force base.
His son and wife visited his grave in a season two episode of the A&E reality series Big Smo.
He and his wife, Mary Jane Smith, née Barber, had two sons. Big Smo earned his pseudonym from his older brother, who has nicknamed Schma. He had two grandchildren through Big Smo, Ameria and Lanica Crocker.
In 2014, his son released the song "My Place" which featured Darius Rucker .
