ABOUT CARMEN MAURA
Initially famous for her Goya Award-winning performance in the 1988 movie Women on The Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, this Spanish actress went on to win three more Goyas for her roles in ¡Ay Carmela!, La Comunidad, and Volver .
After studying at Paris' École de Beaux-Arts, she pursued a career as a singer. She made her screen acting debut in the 1970 film The Man in Hiding.
She co-starred with Penelope Cruz in the acclaimed 2006 film Volver.
She grew up in a prominent Madrid family: her great-grandfather was a count, and her great-great uncle was a Spanish prime minister. Her six-year marriage to attorney Francisco Forteza resulted in children named Pablo and Carmen.
During the 1980s, she worked on six films with director Pedro Almodovar . She also frequently worked with director Alex de la Iglesia.
