German-born character actor who played small roles in over one hundred twentieth-century films, including 1933's No Other Woman, 1935's Metropolitan, and 1940's Swiss Family Robinson.
His first screen appearance was in the 1952 MGM film, The Belle of New York.
He was the voice and the visual model for the character of Mister Geppetto in the 1940 Disney animated film, Pinnochio.
He was born in Germany, and he died in Southern California on the day after his seventieth birthday.
He appeared in Tales of Manhattan, a 1949 film with a cast that included Paul Robeson and W.C. Fields.
