Daughter of famous children's author Cressida Cowell . Her mother has said that she and her siblings were the inspiration for her most popular series of stories, and that is a lot of what she learned about parenting them.

Her full name is Nancy Rose
Darling Cowell. Her maternal grandfather was the one who first told her mother tales of the Vikings and their time off the coast of Scotland. She and her siblings were often taken on vacation to the Inner Hebrides island, the inspiration behind the setting of her mother's books.

She and her younger brother both have nicknames given to them by their parents: Clemmie and Xanny, which is short for Alexander.

Her mother is an author and her father is a retired businessman and philanthropist. She has a younger brother and an older sister.

Her mother Cressida Cowell is most known for her book series How to Train Your Dragon which was subsequently turned into a popular film franchise starring Canadian Jay Baruchel .
