Attacking midfielder who had enormous success as a member of the clubs Guangzhou Evergrande, Fluminense and Universidad Católica. When he signed with Guangzhou Evergrande in 2011, he was made the third-highest paid player in the world.
He made his youth debut with Club Atlético Tigre when he was 15 years old.
He was voted as the best player in Campeonato Brasileiro Série A in two consecutive years in 2009 and 2010.
He married Paula Araújo in 2010. He has children named Bryan and Benjamin.
He has been teammates with Marcelo Saragosa at Austin Bold FC.
