ABOUT DELMORE SCHWARTZ

Bollingen Prize-winning American poet and author known for a 1959 collection entitled Summer Knowledge: New and Selected Poems. His other works include In Dreams Begin Responsibilities and The World Is a Wedding.

He studied at Columbia University, the University of Wisconsin, and New York University.

He suffered from mental illness and alcoholism and died at age fifty-two. At the time of his death, he was a resident at New York's Columbia Hotel.

He was married to Gertrude Buckman from 1937-1943; he later wed and divorced Elizabeth Pollet.

Musician Lou Reed dedicated his song "European Sun" to Schwartz.
