ABOUT DENISE ROBINS

Celebrated for her romantic novels, she also wrote many short stories and plays, as well as an autobiography entitled Stranger Than Fiction. Her Gothic romance novels include Strange Rapture, Shatter the Sky, and Slave-Woman.

She worked as a journalist and freelance writer before becoming a novelist. She published her first novel, Love's Broken Idol, in 1918.

Her 1929 co-written play, Heatwave, was produced at London's St. James Theatre.

Her mother encouraged her to become a writer. Robins married twice and had three children.

She and Victor Hugo are both well-known, European-born authors.
