Owner of various companies including Château Élan Winery & Resort in Georgia. He funded the auto company Panoz Auto Development, which was started by his son Dan.

He studied business at Duquesne University. He managed two drug stores while in school.

He owned the Sebring Raceway and Élan Natural Waters.

He was of Italian-American descent. He was married to Nancy Panoz.

He was a fan of Jeff Gordon .
