ABOUT EDWARD MOORE

Eighteenth-century English playwright whose dramatic works include The Foundling and The Trial of Selim the Persian. He is most famous, however, for The Gamester, a play first produced in 1753.

He published one of his earliest works, Fables of the Female Sex, in 1744.

A collection of his complete theatrical works was published three decades after his death.

He was the Berkshire, England-born son of a minister.

He collaborated with Horace Walpole and other literary figures of the era on the publication of a periodical called The World.
