ABOUT EDWIN FREDERICK O'BRIEN

American Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church who, from 2007 to 2011, served as the Archbishop of Baltimore.

He was a chaplain during the Vietnam War with the 173rd Airborne Brigade and 1st Cavalry Brigade, where he was based in a jungle and flew with a Protestant minister by helicopter to minister to soldiers.

He was the Archbishop for the Military Services from 1997 to 2007 and thus travelled extensively to Afghanistan and Iraq.

He has two brothers, Ken and Tom.

He was appointed the Grand Master of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012.
