ABOUT ELAINE HAMILTON-O'NEAL
Abstract painter and muralist whose artistic work grew out of her lifetime of worldwide travel. Known for her action painting. Winner of the first prize at France's 1968 Biennale de Menton.
She grew up in Maryland and attended the Maryland Institute and the National Polytechnic Institute. She also belonged to the Art Students League, studying with Robert Brackman for two years.
She was an avid mountain climber who conquered the Himalayas and K2.
She was raised in a middle-class family. She married William O'Neal in 1942 after meeting him at a black-tie dinner at the Baltimore Country Club.
She studied under the guidance of Diego Rivera at the National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico City.
