Elizabeth George Speare
ABOUT ELIZABETH GEORGE SPEARE
American children's author well known for her Newbery Award winning historical fictional novels The Witch of Blackbird Pond and The Bronze Bow. She won the Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction and the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal.
She attended Smith College for her undergraduate degree and obtained a Master's in English literature from Boston University.
She was one of only five children's authors to win two Newbery medals.
Her parents were Harry Allan and Demetria Simmons George. She was married to Alden Speare and had one son and one daughter.
Sharon Creech is another prolific Newbery Award winning children's author.
