Prolific writer and director who is best known for his 2010 film, 3 Backyards.
He developed a fascination with the industry early, and knew he wanted to write screenplays as a child.
He once taught classes at Columbia University in Harlem.
He had five siblings, including author Daniel Mendelsohn.
His film, 3 Backyards, was recognized by the Sundance Film Festival, which was established by actor, Robert Redford .
