ABOUT FACUNDO CABRAL
Argentine singer, vocalist, entertainer, performer, composer, artist, musician, writer, songwriter, and poet who is known for both his folk and protest songs that have combined spirituality, social commentary, and hope into unique musical blends.
He grew up impoverished which impacted his political and spiritual beliefs. He began writing poetry and making music as a way to cope with his feelings and frustrations about the world. His musical career began to flourish in the 1980s.
He was named a UNESCO Messenger of Peace in 1996. He was shot and killed during a tour in Guatemala City on July 9th, 2011. He was a fan of the writings of Jorge Luis Borges and Walt Whitman . His songs "No soy de aquí, ni soy de allá" and "Pobrecito mi Patron" became well-known internationally in other Spanish-speaking countries.
He was born Rodolfo Enrique Cabral Camiñas. He was born and raised in La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He lost his wife and daughter in an accident in the early 1970s.
