Midfielder named German Footballer of the Year in 2011; joined the German national team in 2005.

She began her youth career with DJK/VfL Giesenkirchen in 1993.

She helped lead FCR 2001 Duisburg to a UEFA Women's Cup in 2008–09.

She married fellow soccer player Enis Alushi in 2013.

She finished third place in the 2010 FIFA Ballon d'Or voting; American goalkeeper Hope Solo was also amongst the 10 finalists.
