ABOUT FREDERIC PROKOSCH

An American author of novels and poetry, he is known for works such as The Asiatics (1935 novel), The Carnival (1938 poetry collection), and Storm and Echo (1948 novel). Also a translator, he prepared an English version of Louise Labe's love sonnets in 1947.

He graduated from Haverford College and went on to receive his Ph.D. in English from Yale University. In his youth, he was a successful squash player.

He once claimed that nobody had ever really known him and that it would be impossible to write a biography of his life.

His father, Eduard Prokosch, taught Germanic languages at Yale University.

Albert Camus admired Prokosch's writing.
