He was a baseball player on a team that was the runner-up at the 1974 Little League World Series.

He played college football at California, where he was part of the notorious lateral-filled final play remembered by all football fans as "The Play."

His sons, Griffin and Garrett, are both successful football players.

During his time with the Bills he was a backup to legend Jim Kelly .
