ABOUT GEORGE TOPîRCEANU
Writer and poet who wrote the poem "The Ballad of a Tiny Cricket". He is known for his lyricism and use of metaphor.
He studied at the University of Bucharest Law School.
He was drafted in World War I and ended up in a Bulgarian POW camp until the end of the war. His experiences there became the inspiration for his book "In Their Claw...Memories from Bulgaria and Light Sketches."
In 1912, he married Victoria Iuga. They had a son named Gheorghe.
French politician Charles de Gaulle also published a book about his experience as a POW during World War I.
