Gillian Ayres
ABOUT GILLIAN AYRES
English painter who produced paintings such as Anthony and Cleopatra in 1982 and A Midsummer Night in 1990 and was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2011 Birthday Honours.
She studied at the Camberwell School of Art from 1946 until 1950.
She worked as a teacher at the Bath Academy of Art, Corsham from 1959 until 1965.
She was married to painter Henry Mundy for almost 30 years and they had two sons.
Like her, Vanessa Bell is an English painter.
