He played hockey in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

He was a first-team All-Star in the AHL in 1943.

His brother Joe Bell played in the NHL for the New York Rangers.

He played for the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 1945-46 season, 10 years before Hall of Famer Frank Mahovlich began his tenure with the franchise.
