ABOUT GURMIT SINGH
Best known for his starring role as Phua Chu Kang in the Singaporean comedy series Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd., this popular actor later played Andy Lau Hong in a Media Corp Channel 5 series titled Calefare.
After graduating from his country's National Police Cadet Corps, he made his television debut on a variety program called Live On 5.
In 2008, he hosted a game show called Don't Forget The Lyrics! He also hosted Singapore Idol and appeared in a 2002 episode of The Amazing Race.
Born to a Malaysian father and a mother of both Japanese and Chinese descent, he grew up in Singapore. He and his Cantonese wife, Melissa, became parents to a son named Elliot and a daughter named Gabrielle.
He and Malaysian actor Huang Wenyong both won MediaCorp Star Awards.
