ABOUT HAL LINDEN

Theatre and television actor who starred in Barney Miller and won a Tony Award for Best Actor for his role in the musical The Rothschilds. He appeared in more than 250 episodes of television throughout his long career.

He was born Harold Lipshitz and originally began his career as a clarinetist and dance band singer.

His role in Barney Miller earned him seven Primetime Emmy Awards and three Golden Globe Award nominations throughout the show's life. In 2019, he played Bertram Hollister in an episode of Grey's Anatomy .

He married dancer Frances Martin in 1958 and they had four children together.

His breakthrough on the NY stage came when he starred in the revival of Cole Porter 's Anything Goes.
