Screenwriter best known for writing the screenplays to 1968's Countdown, as well as Jaws 2.
He got his start in 1960, after his novel, The Crowded Sky, was adapted for the silver screen by Warner Brothers.
He was once very good friends with acclaimed filmmaker, Robert Altman .
He never married.
He wrote the screenplay for Jaws: The Revenge, which starred Michael Caine .
