ABOUT HANYA YANAGIHARA
Novelist, writer, and editor who is best known for writing the 2015 book A Little Life. The novel was shortlisted for the 2015 Booker Prize. It won the 2015 Kirkus Prize for fiction. She served as editor in chief of T: The NYTimes Style Magazine.
She attended Smith College.
She has written novels The People in the Trees and To Paradise. Yanagihara has said that her father introduced her as a girl to the work of Philip Roth and to "British writers of a certain age", such as Anita Brookner, Iris Murdoch, and Barbara Pym.
Her father was medical oncologist Dr Ronald Yanagihara. She has Japanese and Korean heritage.
She admires writers Hilary Mantel and John Banville .
