English wine expert who published some of the best-selling wine books in the world. He is most famous for his 1971 World Atlas of Wine.
He discovered his interest in wine-tasting while studying at King's College, Cambridge in the 1950s.
He made history by sampling a bottle of 1540 German wine in 1961.
He published a 2006 autobiography with the appropriate title of A Life Uncorked.
He and Chef George Calombaris were both featured in Global Food and Wine Magazine.
