ABOUT IRAKLI CHARKVIANI
Poet from Georgia who became known for his eclectic, groundbreaking work.
He studied literature at Tbilisi State University and subsequently performed with bands such as Taxi, Children's Medicine, and Georgian Dance Empire.
His first solo spoken word album, Svan Song, was recorded in 1993 and greatly influenced the development of the alternative music scene in Georgia.
He was born into a socially prominent family in Soviet Georgia. His father, Gela Charkviani, was a diplomat who had served as the Georgian ambassador to the United Kingdom.
He and Katie Melua were both popular Georgian-born artists.
