Cross-dresser who is thought to have inspired the glam rock style. He became famous for acting in the avant-garde films of Andy Warhol . In 1971, he played a character by his same name in the movie Women In Revolt.
He made his stage-acting debut at age 17 in Miss Nefertiti Regrets.
He had a severe drug addiction and died of a heroin overdose in 1985. He was 38 years old.
His parents were John Holder, Sr., and Jenevive Uglialoro.
He was referenced specifically by musician Lou Reed in the song, "Walk on the Wild Side."
